Scotland: The Perfect Stage... for Music
1. In 2003, Scotland hosted the 10th annual MTV Europe Music Awards. Watched by an estimated one billion people from 28 countries, the event featured performances by artists such as Beyoncé, Pink and the Black Eyed Peas and generated £8.9m for Scotland.
2. Scotland has produced numerous award winning bands and musicians like The Fratellis, Biffy Clyro, Belle & Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand, Annie Lennox, Paolo Nutini and Bobby Gillespie, lead singer and founder of Primal Scream.
3. T in the Park has been held annually in Scotland since 1994 and, this year, more than 120 acts will play to an estimated audience of 85,000.
4. Radio 1’s Big Weekend came to Dundee in 2006 and entertained 30,000 over two days at the biggest free music festival in the UK with acts like Muse, Snow Patrol and Editors.
5. This year Scotland will host over 800 music events and festivals.
