Glasgow - AN URBAN MUSIC VENUE

Glasgow is a must visit city for touring international urban artists, Jay Z, Eminem, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and John Legend are just some of the global urban community that love playing in front of a knowledgeable, enthusiastic Glasgow audience.

In 2010, MTV brought global superstar Diddy's new collective Diddy-Dirty Money to The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow as part of their MTV CRASHES... series.  The show was filmed as an MTV Worldstage event and broadcast via MTV channels in 161 countries and over 640 million households as part of MTV’s global Friday night live music programming, reinforcing both Glasgow and Scotland's position as a world leading events destination.

Urban music has become an integral part of the Glasgow club scene. Premier city centre venues such as Karbon, Bamboo, Kushion, Byblos, Sea, The Tunnel and Common all have dedicated urban club nights and many have Urban rooms that are full every night they open. Urban music has become a staple for nightclubs in Glasgow.

HOMEGROWN TALENT

Scotland has become a melting pot of new urban talent, the constant stream of international artists that pass through concert venues and clubs in the country has inspired talented locals to channel their energy into producing music.

DJs such as Naeem, Paul N’Jai, Ray Woods, Kash, Illyus and Gavin Sommerville to name only a few, have pushed the urban sound for years, opening Scottish ears to the possibilities of the genre. Producers such as Mac and Kwame are only the tip of the Scottish urban iceberg.

Glasgow being the first host outside of London for the prestigious MOBO Awards has inspired existing songwriters, producers, singers, rappers and DJs to push the urban sound, as well as opening the ears of countless more who have yet to find the scene.
